NSW publishes an invitation process and current criteria, but this review did not establish a separately dated, whole-program 2026–27 opening notice. Do not treat this guide's source-check date as confirmation of an open intake. Checked 23 October 2026.
Program status describes whether the state is accepting applications. It is separate from list coverage.
- NSW considers age, English, education, points and skilled experience; it is not a simple first-in queue.
- NSW says the EOI submission or amendment date does not determine the likelihood of selection.
- No predetermined round dates or guaranteed future cutoff should be inferred from a reported round.
Stream requirements (1)
Which pathways exist
YES means the state has a route for this group. It does not mean applications are open now; check each stream's status. A route existing is not eligibility.
- NOGraduate pathway
NSW does not list a separate general graduate 190 stream. Graduates may compete in the ordinary invitation pathway if they meet its rules.
NSW invitation pathway (By invitation only) - YESSkilled employment
Eligible current NSW employment is one residence alternative within invitation-led 190 selection, not a separate employer-nomination stream.
NSW invitation pathway (By invitation only) - NOLong-term residency stream
Residence can satisfy an ordinary pathway condition; NSW does not list a standalone long-term-resident nomination stream.
NSW invitation pathway (By invitation only) - YESOffshore selection
Candidates meeting the offshore residence alternative may be selected from SkillSelect. Federal eligibility, the relevant NSW list and an invitation remain necessary.
NSW invitation pathway (By invitation only) - NOBusiness-owner stream
No standalone business-owner pathway is listed under these skilled nomination visa guides.
Being on an occupation list only makes an occupation relevant to a stream. It does not mean a person is eligible or will be nominated.
Rules that apply across streams
- VisaFederal and state requirements
- State nomination and the subclass 190 visa are separate decisions. Meet the applicable Home Affairs visa requirements, hold an eligible visa occupation and receive the required invitation. A state-listed occupation alone is not an eligibility decision.
- PointsFederal points
- At least 65 federal points including 5 nomination points, unless a higher competitive or occupation-specific requirement applies. State ROI, VPT and Canberra Matrix scores are different systems; minimum federal points do not guarantee selection.
- Skills assessmentAssessment and registration
- Hold the required valid positive migration skills assessment matching the nominated occupation and meet any occupation registration or licensing requirements. A provisional graduate-visa assessment is not automatically suitable.
- EnglishEnglish and age
- Meet the applicable English requirement and be under 45 at the federal invitation stage. A state may require stronger English or impose an earlier age-assessment stage; those state conditions also apply. English test rules depend on test type and test date.
- ProcessEvidence and selection
- Keep the SkillSelect EOI accurate and current, substantiate every claimed point, and follow the state's invitation or direct-application process. Nomination is competitive and discretionary; meeting a published minimum is not a promise of an invitation.
Streams in detail 1
Status shows current intake for each stream. Open a stream for its full requirements.
NSW invitation pathwayIntake: By invitation onlyNSW selects EOIs; there is no separate direct-application or general graduate stream for subclass 190.
- Who it is for
- Eligible onshore and offshore skilled workers
- Occupations
- NSW 190 Skills List unit groups plus the federal subclass 190 occupation requirements.
- Process
- SkillSelect EOI → NSW invitation → nomination application within 14 days → federal visa process.
Minimum requirements
You must meet all of these to be considered.
- OccupationNSW skills list
- Your visa-eligible nominated occupation must fall within an ANZSCO unit group on the NSW Skills List for 190. Check the actual occupation and visa, not just a similar job title. See https://www.nsw.gov.au/visas-and-migration/skilled-visas/nsw-skills-lists.
- ResidenceOnshore or offshore alternatives
- Meet one alternative: currently working in NSW in your nominated occupation in paid work of at least 20 hours per week; continuously resident in NSW for six months; or continuously resident offshore for six months.
- OtherCompetitive selection
- NSW considers age, English proficiency, education, points and skilled work experience. There are no predetermined invitation-round dates; an EOI update date is not itself a selection advantage.
- ProcessInvitation deadline
- Keep the EOI current. If NSW invites you to apply for nomination, submit the complete application within 14 days; the published process does not provide an extension.
Priority attributes
These can improve your chance of selection. They are not requirements.
Invitation-led selection; do not equate a priority occupation or 65 points with a guaranteed invitation.
- OtherInvitation selection
- NSW's invitation-led routes consider age, English proficiency, qualifications, points and skilled work experience. Meeting a residence alternative, having a listed occupation or reaching 65 federal points does not establish a competitive cutoff or guarantee nomination.
Evidence checklist
- Passport, current visa / VEVO record, valid matching migration skills assessment, English evidence and an up-to-date SkillSelect EOI. Supply registration or licensing evidence where required.
- Evidence supporting every federal point and every state claim, including partner or dependant claims. Use the state's current document checklist before lodging.
- Where employment or a job offer is required: contract/offer, duty statement, employer details, payslips, bank credits and tax/superannuation evidence for the qualifying period. A job title alone does not establish related employment.
- Where required: evidence of local residence and spouse/dependant residence, with dates consistent across application, banking, work and study records. Offshore applicants use the relevant overseas residence test instead.

The checked current-round page identifies 4 June 2026; later reported rounds are not included without published official occupation-level results. Put these results in context
Put the state information in context with our 190 and 491 nomination planning guide. An occupation appearing on a list does not confirm that you meet a state’s individual pathway requirements.
If an employer-backed option may be relevant, read how employer sponsorship compares with skilled migration. Check the occupation list and applicant requirements for the particular visa stream separately.

ABS classification describes occupations, not an individual's skills assessment or eligibility. This reference is labelled with its own ANZSCO version; the federal points-tested and 494 instruments use the specified 2013 classification, while the checked 482 Core Skills and 186 Direct Entry instruments specify 2022. Changed or unmatched codes must not be treated as interchangeable.

Data sources and limitations
General information compiled from official published sources. Lists, rounds and state programs change without notice; confirm on the official source before acting.
- This is occupation research, not a personal eligibility assessment or an invitation prediction. Points, age, English, skills assessment, residence, employment and other stream conditions must all be checked.
- List membership, priority ranking, program opening status and invitation outcomes are different facts. None alone proves eligibility.
- Queensland and WA Schedule 1, Schedule 2 and Graduate occupation datasets are labelled 2025–26; current-year coverage is awaiting verification. NSW 491's Regional Skills List update remains separate from Pathway 1's verified federal-list rule. WA Defence occupation coverage remains unverified. Victoria, Tasmania and NT accept the relevant federal list for the general pathways identified in their details; intake openings, priority and personal requirements are separate.
- Only approved state guides are included. Prepared or saved private drafts are never exposed. Some state pathways may not yet have an approved detailed guide.
- 482 Core Skills, 186 Direct Entry and 494 Employer Sponsored coverage is checked against their separate legislative instruments. Specialist Skills, TRT, labour agreements and DAMA coverage must be assessed separately; no agreement coverage or personal eligibility is inferred.
- State invitation rows require an approved guide identifying this exact occupation code or title. Federal 189 history uses the latest five rounds in the checked official Home Affairs pages and exact occupation-title matches. Unit-group results are not individual occupation cutoffs; missing scores remain unpublished, never zero or a borrowed score.
