The right application starts before the offer.
Understand course selection, admission documents, conditional offers, acceptance, fees, enrolment and CoE arrangements, with visa eligibility assessed separately.
An informed application connects your academic background with a suitable course and a realistic plan. iExcel can help you understand options and prepare for the admission process within the agreed service scope. The institution decides admission; Home Affairs decides the visa.
Admission is decided by the provider. The visa is decided by the Department of Home Affairs. Neither is guaranteed.
Before you choose a course
Clarify suitability and your visa position before paying fees or relying on an expected start date.
A credible academic choice
Compare the proposed course with your earlier education, work and future goals. Consider why this level, provider and location make sense, including any change of field or study gap.
A provider-specific shortlist
Check the exact course registration, academic and English requirements, campus, delivery, practical components and availability. Confirm what assistance iExcel can provide for the particular institution.
An achievable budget and timetable
Understand tuition, other charges, living expenses, insurance, relevant dates and refund terms. Do not book non-refundable travel on the assumption that admission or a visa will be approved in time.
Know what each decision means
Documents vary by applicant and provider. Always use accurate information and meet the actual conditions in writing.
Admission documents
A provider may request identity documents, academic transcripts, qualification certificates, English evidence and other course-specific material. Supply translations or certified documents where required and explain relevant history accurately.
Conditional and unconditional offers
A conditional offer requires specified conditions to be satisfied. An unconditional offer still needs to be read alongside the written agreement, acceptance deadline and applicable enrolment requirements. Neither is a visa decision.
Acceptance and payments
Read the agreement before accepting or paying. Check the deposit, total fees, payment destination, cancellation and refund terms. Pay only through verified channels and keep your records.
Enrolment and CoE
The provider issues a Confirmation of Enrolment when its requirements have been met. Check the course, dates and personal details. A CoE is enrolment evidence; it does not grant a visa or permission to remain in Australia.
Insurance and welfare
Arrange the required OSHC or establish an applicable exemption for the visa. Students under 18 also need the relevant welfare arrangements. A guardian’s eligibility and insurance must be assessed separately.
Changing provider or course
Before withdrawing, transferring or changing study level, check provider release requirements, written terms, your current visa conditions and whether a new visa application is possible or necessary.
A clear admissions process
The exact sequence depends on your circumstances and the provider. Visa advice is a separate part of the plan, not an automatic result of enrolment.
Review your circumstances
Discuss your background, study goals, budget, timing and any current visa restrictions.
Shortlist and check
Compare suitable courses and confirm requirements, registration and availability.
Prepare and apply
Submit accurate provider-specific documents and respond to admission requests.
Review the offer
Understand conditions, deadlines, the written agreement and refund terms before acceptance.
Complete enrolment
Meet acceptance requirements and arrange relevant payments, insurance, welfare and CoE documentation.
Assess the visa application
Use the separate subclass 500 guidance for current eligibility, evidence and application stages. Do not assume onshore lodgement is available.

University & College Admissions: common questions
An offer sets out the institution’s admission offer and any conditions. A Confirmation of Enrolment records enrolment after the provider’s requirements have been satisfied. Neither document is a visa grant or a guarantee that the visa requirements are met.
Do not assume that. Ask us to confirm the assistance available for the institution and course you are considering. Any provider representation or partnership should be confirmed rather than inferred from this website.
No guarantee is made. Admission and scholarship decisions belong to the relevant provider or awarding body, and depend on their criteria, availability and your application.
No. Your current visa, application history and the relevant restrictions or exemptions must be assessed before you rely on an onshore application. Enrolment does not create eligibility to apply in Australia or permission to remain.
Yes. Our Student Visa subclass 500 page explains the general eligibility, evidence, application stages, conditions and cautions. Individual advice requires an assessment of your circumstances; the public guide is not an eligibility decision.
